The nature of small field sizes is a lack of value. Seven races today at Newcastle and only 47 runners. The biggest field of the day being an impossible C1/MDN 2200m race. Certainly tough going!

Suggesting a couple of Multi plays on horses that look standout class selections in the small fields. Certainly not the norm – tumbling into short priced commodities in all up. But they are all attractively priced compared to rated prices and look adaptable to any conditions of the day.

NEWCASTLE (Beaumont Track)

R2 #7 Merovee ($1.80) – The closely followed son on Frankel (Out of More Strawberries) – resumes here for his second preparation. This horse has been under the microscope since it came into the Waller stables. Has trialled up strong on two occasions in readiness for today and looks to be an improved galloper. Bowman heading to Newcastle to ride and you know Waller will be placing this horse to advantage. He looks clearly the best horse in the race today (possibly on a Derby path) and expect him to be well backed and very hard to beat.

SUGGESTED BETTING: Use as banker in Multi’s

R3 #1 Reach For Heaven ($1.50) – This horse simply looks too good for its opposition today.  Dominant first up over the 1200m – complete forgive second up on a heavily biased track – chased home Arbeitsam and The Pharoah (both won Saturday races since) against a slow tempo and bias again last start in another forgive run. Onslaught is closest danger in betting – has had dream trails in both starts back this campaign and only fair to the line – can be peaking but really needs to lift. Kendalman looks the one capable of running a cheeky race at odds if it find the front with the light weight – a huge query at the distance though.

R6 #3 It’s So Obvious ($2.9) – Talented mare that was dominant around this circuit first up over a similar trip. Straight to town and up in distance second up – she put in a very strong performance. Another strong race last start and she pushed forward early to sit outside a very fast tempo – right there until late when fading badly (understandable). She drops back to C2 company here – looks to get the softest of leads if desired (Dinky Di Dora looks to have been ridden conservatively in trials for new stable) – back to 1300m and looks extremely difficult to run down.

Merovee / Reach For Heaven / It’s So Obvious ($12.3 approx. with Bet365) – 2 Units
Merovee / Reach For Heaven ($3.85 approx. with Bet365) – 3 Units
Merovee / It’s So Obvious ($7 approx. with Bet365) – 1 Unit

Only suggesting Bet365 here due to the SP guarantee applied. Market shifts could be exaggerated in the small field and it is a great backup to have – especially when playing multi’s.
